thank you For making this event magical
On May 25, 2024, we hosted our first annual Golden Spirit Fundraising Event in the beautiful downstairs Unity Hall at Unity Temple on the Plaza! It was a BEAUTIFUL evening with Erin Keller performing the Joni Mitchell album "Mingus" with a spectacular band featuring Patrick Ketter (our Board Treasurer) on tenor saxophone, Adam Schlozman on guitar, Angela Ward on keyboards, Forest Stewart on electric bass, Matt Leifer on drums and cymbals, and Mike Fenton (Board member) on percussion. Sandra Campbell (Board member) did a wonderful job emceeing the evening decked out in our colors purple and gold, matching the elegantly decorated tables.
Tyra Prosser (Board member) and Katie Crawford (Board Secretary) ran the silent auction, which had some AMAZING offerings from so many generous beautiful people from Kansas City and elsewhere. We had art donated by David Ford, Peregrine Honig, Bill Heineken, Jenna Bauer, Brent O'Connor, Ryan Wilks, Cathy White, and Mike Pollock; adventure donated by River Life KC (Roger MacBride), and KC Historic Tours (Erik Stafford); health and wellness donated by Cynthia McKay, Tyra Prosser, and Joshua Jameson; restaurant gift certificates donated by Pressed Penny, Hi-Dive, and The Downtown Peanut; performance gift certificates donated by Owen/Cox Dance and the Kansas City Chorale; and a blanket made and donated by Ruby Renee Wood. The foods and drinks for the evening were curated by Sarah Anderson. She presented loads of food for a Mingus Mezze, including hummus and peppers, baklava, and a French '75 inspired cocktail. We had some great volunteers who helped us put everything together: Helen Betts, Connie and Rob Dodson, Maureen Dwyer, Diana Greer, Neal Longs, Tami Middleton, and Evan Werts. We'd also like to thank our photographer Scavo's Photos, videographer Willym Brown, and our sound engineer Chad Meise.
Lastly, we need to thank our sponsors: Creative Brand Solutions (Ben and Donna Raskin) and Unity Temple on the Plaza; and our esteemed donors: Keith Andrews, Bruce Hoffman, Dwight Keller, Adam Jones, Lex Neal, and Jennifer Owen and Brad Cox. We are so grateful for everyone who contributed to our special evening! It truly was a success, helping us to raise over $5,000! We are on our way toward piloting our program in the fall. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our first annual Golden Spirit Fundraising Event. We can't wait to bring you our next event on September 22 at 2:00 at Unity Hall in the basement of Unity Temple on the Plaza! It will be a Motown Concert in partnership with Unity Temple on the Plaza. We hope to se you there!
